Make Meditation a daily practice
We live in a society that is constantly on the move. Busy at work. Busy at home. There are endless family obligations. Friends are wanting to schedule get-togethers. Our minds become flooded with constant thoughts about the future. It can be overwhelming sometimes the number of tasks we have to complete just to keep life moving forward.
With all of the demands placed on us, it’s no surprise that we have such high rates of anxiety and depression. Many of us struggle to find time for personal reflection and relaxation. Even when we have time alone do we really relax? Can you truly say that you’re focused on your mental and physical health, or is your mind still racing away with anxious thoughts?
Meditation is a practice that has helped me feel less anxious and more focused in my life. Now, for some of you, the word meditation may conjure up images of hippies trying to connect with their “higher self”, or Buddhist monks sitting silently in a dark cave for days on end. In reality, meditation doesn’t have to be a big deal. You don’t need any special equipment or education. You really just need a quiet place to escape to for a few minutes.
The point of meditation is to quiet the mind by focusing on just the present moment. It’s not a time to think about your past regrets in life, or your future challenges – that just causes us unnecessary anxiety. With some consistent practice in meditation, you can reap the many positive rewards to your mental and physical health.
Meditation has been studied extensively around the world. Individuals that practice frequent meditation report a reduction in anxiety, depression, pain, and addictive tendencies. When we feel relaxed our bodies respond by decreasing levels of stress hormones. This reduces our heart rate and blood pressure, contributing to better cardiovascular health. A calm mind also promotes better sleep and overall wellness. So, why not give it a try?
Start your own practice today. I personally start out most of my days by meditating for 10 minutes during a salt therapy session. At Salted Desert, our halotherapy sessions give you the benefits of breathing the salted air but also provide the space to relax and meditate. Try taking 10 minutes out of your life and see how you feel. After your session, continue your wellness experience by sitting in our Himalayan salt meditation garden.
Your health is your most valuable asset.
