May Is Mental Health Awareness Month

I would venture to say that we are all feeling some level of stress, anxiety, and depression in our lives. We have been subjected to one of the worst health pandemics in modern times. War and political chaos continue as daily events. Our society appears more divided than ever. You may find that you’ve picked up some bad coping habits. Since the pandemic, alcoholism and drug abuse are at all-time high levels. People are quitting their jobs in record numbers. The rates of divorce and bankruptcies are steadily climbing. Many of us are feeling overwhelmed. We can’t continue to internalize all these experiences without consequences. My challenge for you today is to take some time to think about your mental health. How do you feel overall? Have you stopped doing some of the things that brought you happiness in the past? Are you self-medicating with drugs or alcohol? Have you noticed an increase in your overall anxiety or depression? If so, what are you doing about it? The road to good mental health means acknowledging your anxiety and depression and getting professional help. It also means engaging in activities that reduce your stress and make you feel happy. Try increasing your physical activity; walking, biking, swimming, gardening – whatever, just get out and do it. Try meditation, yoga, halotherapy, reiki, acupuncture, and tai chi – something that focuses on the mind-body connection. Eat more nutritious foods with less fat, sugar, and salt. Whatever you do, please start today! Wishing you the best in health,
